People of all races usually have their own custom, culture, believe and tradition to celebrate their new year annually. For Chinese people, they would like to celebrate their new year every year and every where in the world because there are Chinese people in all countries over the globe. The festival happens somewhere between the third of January and the second week of February. It' s impossible to fix the date because it bases on Chinese lunar calendar.

Usually the preparation for the celebration of the new year is made a month in advance, various kinds of cakes are made, the house are cleared, re-painted, or white washed. A kind of red paper bearing the words "Prosperity and Happiness" are written and hung on the walls. Chinese people regard the red color as auspicious and much importance attached to the fact. On new year day, everyone in the family gets up earlier and pray to the gods for the prosperity, luck and happiness. The festival lasts 15 days and people give and get presents from each other, dress in fine clothes, and visit their relatives.
